Building a Conglomerate in Another World

Chapter 53: The World’s Fair

Chapter 53: The World’s Fair

The morning sun bathed the sprawling grounds of the World’s Fair in golden light, illuminating a scene of organized chaos. Towering flags from every participating nation lined the avenues, fluttering in the soft breeze. The gates had just opened, and already, streams of visitors were pouring in—men in suits and bowler hats, women in flowing dresses and parasols, children clutching their parents’ hands with wide-eyed excitement.

The sheer scale of the fair was breathtaking. Elaborate pavilions stretched as far as the eye could see, showcasing everything from industrial machinery to culinary innovations. Each building was a marvel of architecture, reflecting the culture and ingenuity of its creators. The air buzzed with anticipation, a blend of voices, footsteps, and the occasional blast of a steam whistle from a distant exhibit.

Matthew stood near the entrance to his pavilion, his heart racing with a mix of excitement and nerves. He could see the growing throngs of people entering the fairgrounds, their curiosity evident as they scanned the towering signs directing them to various exhibits.@@@@

Amber joined him, her smile calm but encouraging. "Look at this crowd. You’re about to make history, Matthew."

Charles stepped up, adjusting his immaculate suit as he surveyed the scene. "Indeed. This is your moment. Every person walking through those gates is a potential believer in your vision. Make them see it."

Matthew took a deep breath, his hands gripping the lapels of his jacket. "I’m ready. Let’s show them what we’ve built."

As the first wave of visitors approached Matthew’s pavilion, their reactions were immediate. The gleaming sedan, prominently displayed in the center, caught their eyes. Its polished black exterior reflected the sunlight, and its sleek, modern design stood out against the more utilitarian machinery displayed in nearby exhibits.

A middle-aged man in a tailored coat leaned closer to the sedan, examining it with a mix of awe and skepticism. "What is this? A carriage without horses?" he asked aloud, drawing a small crowd.

Matthew stepped forward, a confident smile on his face. "Not just a carriage, sir—a new kind of transportation. This is the future of mobility. No horses, no coal, just an engine powered by internal combustion."

The man straightened, his curiosity piqued. "An engine, you say? And how does it work?"

Matthew launched into an explanation, his words clear and engaging. He described the four-cylinder engine, the fuel system, and the sedan’s capabilities. The crowd around him grew larger, their expressions shifting from doubt to amazement as he spoke.

Nearby, Amber was fielding questions about the pickup truck. A group of farmers, dressed in simple but sturdy attire, listened intently as she described its features.

"This truck is designed for you," Amber said, her tone warm and approachable. "It can handle over a ton of weight, navigate rough terrain, and save you time and effort on the farm."

Matthew smiled, the weight of his months of preparation lifting slightly. "That’s exactly what we wanted."

As the afternoon wore on, a distinguished-looking man in a tailored suit approached the pavilion. His entourage and the murmurs that followed him indicated he was someone of importance.

Jules hurried over, whispering to Matthew. "That’s Monsieur Lemoine, head of the fair’s international committee. He’s known for his keen eye for innovation."

Matthew straightened, extending his hand as the man approached. "Monsieur Lemoine, welcome to our pavilion."

Lemoine shook his hand, his expression thoughtful as he glanced around. "I’ve heard much about your exhibit, Mr. Hesh. I must say, it exceeds expectations."

"Thank you," Matthew replied. "These vehicles represent our vision for the future of transportation—efficient, practical, and accessible to all."

Lemoine nodded, his gaze lingering on the sedan. "I look forward to seeing more. The committee will certainly take note."

As Lemoine moved on, Jules turned to Matthew, his grin wide. "You’ve made an impression. That’s no small feat."

Matthew allowed himself a rare moment of pride. "This is just the beginning."

As the fairgrounds began to quiet for the evening, Matthew stood at the pavilion entrance, watching the last of the day’s visitors leave. Amber joined him, her expression reflecting the satisfaction he felt.

"You did it," she said simply.

He nodded, his gaze steady. "No—we did it. This is a team effort, and it’s far from over."

Charles approached, placing a hand on Matthew’s shoulder. "You’ve shown them a glimpse of the future, Hesh. Now, let’s see how far it can take us."

Matthew looked out at the fairgrounds, a sense of determination rising within him. The world was watching, and he was ready to meet its gaze.
