Chapter 303 Seven Animals
Chapter 303 Seven Animals
Tang Xiaofu lowered her eyes and slowly spoke:
"After my father took over the zoo, he also sent people into the ancient tomb to dig out the white ape's remains and rebury them according to the rites for sacred animals, in order to appease its resentment."
"We tried three times, but failed each time. We couldn't even get close to the core area of the ancient tomb or the coffin of the tomb owner."
Lin Feng's eyes darkened: "Then why is that?"
"The tomb's occupant, nourished by the white ape sacrifice, has long since transformed into an SS-class monster. The tomb is his domain, and with the zoo restricted from seeking outside assistance... there's simply no way to begin!"
Lin Feng raised his hand and pinched his chin: "Just who is the owner of this tomb?"
Tang Xiaofu slowly recounted the past:
"The tomb owner was named Zhou Hu. In his youth, he gathered a group of bandits, became a mountain king, and committed all kinds of evil deeds, including robbery, murder, and arson."
"The people in the surrounding villages suffered greatly, and many families were wiped out and robbed of their property by him."
"He was ruthless and cruel, and even the hunters in the mountains dared not approach his bandit den easily."
"Later, during an internal conflict, he was seriously injured by his subordinates. Before he died, he was still thinking about the countless treasures he had plundered. He forced the remaining subordinates to bury him and all the loot in this desolate mountain. He also made a poisonous oath: if anyone dares to disturb his tomb and treasures, he will make sure that the person's family is destroyed and that they die a horrible death."
"Is there really no way out?" Lin Feng's voice rang out softly, tinged with resentment.
Tang Xiaofu exhaled a breath of stale air:
"There are ways...it's not entirely impossible."
"I have searched through many ancient books, and they record a possibility—"
"If we could gather seven kinds of animals that are naturally bloodthirsty and whose spirits are exceptionally fierce, we might be able to contend with the creatures in the tomb by borrowing their ferocity and malevolence."
Lin Feng's eyes suddenly lit up, and he quickly asked, "Which seven?"
"Siberian tiger, snow mountain white eagle, wilderness wolf, furious black bear, mandrill, prairie cheetah, and lion," Tang Xiaofu listed them one by one.
Lin Feng immediately replied, "Aren't these readily available at the zoo?"
"There are six animals in the zoo," Tang Xiaofu sighed softly, "except for the snow mountain white eagle."
"Even if we gather all seven, it's still difficult... These beasts are all ferocious and untamable; how could they possibly obey our commands?"
Lin Feng nodded solemnly.
He possesses the ability of the "Call of the Wild," so commanding animals is not a problem for him.
However, due to the rules, the zoo was unable to leave the zoo to search for the missing white eagle.
This missing link became the fatal crux of the problem.
It seems I can only get an A grade clear from this dungeon.
Tang Xiaofu snapped out of her daze and said, "Let's go, we've wasted enough time."
Lin Feng nodded, his gaze sweeping over the Ili horse that was grazing nearby, and he hesitated before asking, "Then this horse..."
"There will be dedicated staff to handle this," Tang Xiaofu said. "I'll take you back to the horse farm first."
As she spoke, she seemed to hesitate for a moment, but still reached out and gently grasped Lin Feng's wrist.
The next second, the surrounding light and shadow shifted, and space seemed to be folded by an invisible force—
In the blink of an eye, the two found themselves in the horse park.
For some reason, Lin Feng, who was originally being held by the hand, suddenly changed his posture the moment he landed, with his arms wrapped around Tang Xiaofu's waist and his forehead gently resting on her shoulder.
Tang Xiaofu was startled, a faint blush immediately spreading across her face: "You...!"
Lin Feng also snapped back to his senses, quickly releasing his grip as if burned, and taking half a step back:
"Sorry, I'm a little... dizzy from spatial travel."
Tang Xiaofu bit her lip lightly, not blaming her, and simply said, "Continue working," before disappearing from the spot.
........................
The rest of the morning's work went smoothly, and no more strange rules were triggered.
At 11:55, Lin Feng and Vassim clocked out and headed to the staff canteen together.
Just as he reached the entrance, a clear voice came from under the sycamore tree beside him: "Lin Feng!"
Tang Xiaorui was standing in the shadow of the trees, her light blue dress accentuating her graceful figure. Her twin ponytails swayed over her shoulders, the ends of her hair still dappled with sunlight.
She smiled and waved to Lin Feng, her eyes curving into crescent moons.
"You're finally back! Come on, let's go eat at the cafeteria."
Before Lin Feng could respond, Tang Xiaorui had already walked over quickly and naturally hooked her arm around his.
Lin Feng was taken aback, and said with a hint of embarrassment, "Well... I smell like animal feed."
"What are you afraid of? I don't mind." Tang Xiaorui blinked, her tone light. "Besides, I need your help with something."
Lin Feng turned to look at Vassim beside him. Vassim raised an eyebrow and waved his hand at him, as if to say, "Do as you please."
When the two arrived at the small canteen, Tang Xiaorui chose a quiet corner spot.
The meal was very plentiful: the steamed sea bass was tender and flavorful, the sweet and sour pork ribs were coated with a bright red sauce, there was also fragrant twice-cooked pork, refreshing garlic broccoli, and two bowls of cordyceps flower chicken soup were warm on the side.
Lin Feng was indeed hungry, so he stopped refusing and picked up his bowl and chopsticks to eat heartily.
Tang Xiaorui rested her chin on her hand, gazing at him quietly, her eyes filled with an indescribable tenderness.
"You must be exhausted this morning. I heard that an Ili horse suddenly went crazy and even alarmed my sister."
Lin Feng swallowed the food in his mouth and nodded, saying, "It was indeed a bit dangerous, but fortunately no one was injured in the end."
"It's all my fault for oversleeping this morning. Otherwise, I would have gone with you, and maybe this wouldn't have happened." Tang Xiaorui's tone was a little annoyed.
"You were so mentally exhausted yesterday, you should have rested more," Lin Feng comforted gently.
Hearing this, Tang Xiaorui instantly beamed with joy, picked up the largest piece of pork rib, and placed it in his bowl:
"Thanks for your concern! Here, have some pork ribs to nourish yourself!"
The meal was warm and pleasant. After finishing, Tang Xiaorui showed no intention of letting Lin Feng leave. She clutched the hem of Lin Feng's clothes and whispered:
"Could you... come to my room? I need your help with something."
"What kind of busy work?" Lin Feng asked.
"You'll see when you get there." Tang Xiaorui's cheeks flushed red as she grabbed his wrist and pulled him outside without another word.
........................
Tang Xiaorui's home is a detached two-story building located in the quiet back area of the zoo, half-hidden by a lush bamboo grove.
The exterior walls of the small building are covered with lush green ivy, and several gardenias are planted in front of the door, their white petals blooming in clusters, their sweet fragrance lingering in the air.
"My dad built this house, and the three of us live here."
Tang Xiaorui took out her key, opened the door, and turned to explain to Lin Feng in a low voice.
"Don't worry, my dad and sister are both workaholics, they won't be home for lunch."
