Chapter 30 – Add some mana, fire raging in the sky
"Senior, on that stormy night, I braved countless hardships to pick this spiritual herb from the top of a cliff."
Chen Xun was on the verge of collapse, tears welling up in his eyes, "I sustained serious injuries to preserve its medicinal properties, all to deliver it to you as quickly as possible."
With such a performance, the sect elder was at a loss and, after a moment's hesitation, rewarded Chen Xun with ten more spirit stones.
"Senior, your wisdom is unparalleled!"
Chen Xun shouted excitedly, as if he had never seen spirit stones in his life.@@@@
The sect elder examined Chen Xun, causing a shock to his heart. A cultivator at the seventh level of Qi cultivation, and so young!
Amidst his astonished gaze, Chen Xun purchased thirty more medicine cases, still using that snake-skin bag to carry them...
"Is this really a seventh-level Qi cultivator?"
The sect elder was stunned for a long time. The man's behavior and speech didn't give it away at all; he seemed more like an ordinary person from the marketplace.
Chen Xun walked slowly through the valley, haggling for a long time at the stalls of independent cultivators, buying three bags of spiritual herb seeds. But this time, he thoroughly inspected the spirit stones before handing them over.
He was inconspicuous, especially with the holes in his snake-skin bag inadvertently revealing empty medicine cases, which annoyed the savvy independent cultivators.
Chen Xun wandered around some more, then entered another sect's pavilion and told a different version of his story.
There was no sign of embarrassment in his words, yet embarrassment was everywhere. Chen Xun's back seemed even more bent under the weight of the snake-skin bag.
Chen Xun's mournful face, as if he had lost a bull at home, never changed as he fiercely haggled over the price of a spirit stone at the stalls.
Inside the pill-refining pavilion, he bought a better pill furnace for fifty low-grade spirit stones and inquired about furnace explosions.
"So that's how it is." Walking along, Chen Xun had a sudden realization. The pill furnace also needed to be nurtured with mana; he used to just leave it aside after use.
Every hour, he would go to different sect pavilions to sell hundred-year-old spiritual herbs. The four hundred-year-old herbs were quickly sold out.
The snake-skin bag now contained over a dozen bags of spiritual herb seeds, but these were only Qi-Enhancing Pill ingredients suitable for the Qi cultivation phase, nothing better.
He 'scavenged' around, unhurriedly. Seeing his seventh-level Qi cultivation, many independent cultivators treated him with respect and didn't dare to cheat him.
Then, Chen Xun quickened his pace, a slight smile on his lips, and disappeared into Nine Stars Valley, returning to his cave without incident.
"Bull, I'm back!"
Chen Xun moved the boulder with one hand, and a black shadow darted out. Black Bull immediately pounced, mooing continuously.
"Haha, let's go inside and talk."
Chen Xun hugged the bull's head, looked around, then sealed the cave with the boulder and went inside.
"Moo moo~~" Black Bull circled around Chen Xun excitedly, pulling at him with its mouth.
"Alright, just this once, I'll never leave you behind again."
Chen Xun said happily, looking at the snake-skin bag, "Quick, look at the treasures inside!"
"Moo!"
Black Bull's eyes lit up, seemingly smelling the spiritual herb seeds, and hurriedly checked, only to be dumbfounded!
"Moo~~" Black Bull looked at Chen Xun in shock. There were over twenty bags – incredible.
A warm current surged through their bodies, and Chen Xun and Black Bull grew more tense, eyes slightly closed, quickly feeling the mana within.
Half an hour passed...
"Eh? It's gone?!"
"Moo?"
Chen Xun was stunned, and so was Black Bull. They felt nothing, still at the seventh level of Qi cultivation.
The cave remained dark with candlelight, and the gentle breeze through the small crack in the boulder was still soft.
"Did I allocate too few points?"
"Moo."
Black Bull nodded at Chen Xun, agreeing. The more points added, the better the effect.
"Let's see next year then. For now, back to work. We're busy."
Chen Xun said nonchalantly, and Black Bull nodded, heading to the herb field, not caring at all.
Two months later.
Chen Xun and Black Bull were using the Fireball Technique to dry clothes when suddenly, the cave was engulfed in flames, smoke billowing.
"Holy... quick, put it out!!"
"Moo!!"
Chen Xun and Black Bull roared in panic. The Fireball Technique was extinguished, but the clothes were gone.
Black Bull quickly pushed the boulder aside, and Chen Xun ran out in his underwear, utterly despondent...
"What... what happened."
Chen Xun muttered numbly, slowly looking at Black Bull, "I was using the Fireball Technique."
"Moo moo?"
Black Bull shook its head, eyes wide with doubt, looking at Chen Xun skeptically. Had he secretly learned some other spell? This was the Fireball Technique?
"Moo."
Black Bull nudged Chen Xun aside and stood up, demonstrating what the Fireball Technique really was, not to be outdone by an old bull.
Chen Xun watched Black Bull, still puzzled.
"Moo!"
Black Bull bellowed, focusing on the distance, serious. Mana surged from its hooves, and a massive fireball rose into the air.
Boom—crackle and sizzle, flames blazed, countless dry branches and leaves burned, smoke rising high.
It can be hard to make great work when its stolen from ".
"Bull, stop it! We need to put out the fire!"
Chen Xun was horrified. They hadn't learned any water spells yet; this was like setting the mountain on fire.
