Chapter 531: If You Don’t Come Back Soon, I’ll Come Look for You
It wasn’t long before she reached the outside of the kitchen.
The kitchen door was open, and Jiang Ran walked right in.
Wang Cuilan was cooking, and when she saw Jiang Ran come in, she smiled.
"Ranran, you’re awake. The meal is ready. Mom made rib soup for you."
Jiang Ran had already caught the aroma of the rib soup as she approached the door.
Hearing Wang Cuilan, she also smiled, "Mom, why didn’t you call me? I could have helped you a bit."
Wang Cuilan kept working and laughed, "I definitely couldn’t call you, or else I’d end up being your assistant. I need to show off my cooking skills too!"
Jiang Ran knew that Wang Cuilan was saying this on purpose.
Though she said that, the real reason Wang Cuilan didn’t call her was that she cared for her and wanted her to sleep a bit more.
Jiang Ran wasn’t sleeping because she was tired, just too comfortable.
But Jiang Ran knew that even if she explained it that way, Wang Cuilan wouldn’t believe it, so she simply didn’t say anything.
Jiang Ran entered the kitchen.
Most of the dishes were already done, she only needed to help bring them out.
Since it was just the three of them eating lunch, Wang Cuilan didn’t make much.
Two dishes and a soup, with steamed rice.
It was made just right for the three of them, finishing everything without any leftovers.
Neither wasted nor unfilled.
After the meal, Jiang Ran didn’t let Wang Cuilan help and cleaned up the dishes by herself.
In the afternoon, she continued to daydream under the veranda. When it was time to pick up Pei Jing, Jiang Ran went to the kindergarten with an umbrella.
On the way, Jiang Ran also brought Pei Jing’s raincoat and rain boots.
Playing in the water is a child’s nature. The rain wasn’t heavy, and the puddles on the ground weren’t deep, so she let Pei Jing walk back, presumably having fun jumping in them.
Pei Jing was overjoyed to see Jiang Ran come to pick him up.
He was even more thrilled when he heard that they were going to walk home.
Jiang Ran changed him into rain boots, put on the raincoat, and she carried Pei Jing’s shoes. Holding the umbrella, she walked slowly behind, watching Pei Jing run with his little short legs.
There were quite a few parents like Jiang Ran too.
In this era, although people cherished children, it wasn’t to the extent it would be decades later.
Letting children run around, if they fell, they’d get up by themselves.
Growing up like this, children didn’t think falling was a big deal whatsoever, they wouldn’t even pout, and could get up by themselves and continue on.
Pei Jing was running and hopping at the front, very happy, splashing water as he stepped into puddles. He would turn his head to give Jiang Ran a bright smile, and his crisp laughter made Jiang Ran laugh along.
A fifteen-minute journey ended up taking them half an hour.
Fortunately, Jiang Ran had anticipated this outcome before coming, so she’d told Wang Cuilan ahead of time they’d be back a bit late, so there was no need to worry.
When the two leisurely walked home, Pei Yang and Pei Shanshan were already back.
Seeing Jiang Ran and Pei Jing return, Pei Yang laughed.
"Sister-in-law, I was just thinking that if you hadn’t come back, I would have gone out to look for you."
Jiang Ran found it amusing, "What’s there to look for? It’s not like I wouldn’t find my way home."
They had lived here for half a year, and even if she closed her eyes, she wouldn’t walk the wrong way on the surrounding roads.
