Chapter 48 – Junior of a senior
"Do we have a doorbell?"
Lin Xiaolu, who had been resting her chin on her hands, raised her head and stood up straight. "At this time?"
Xia Liang leaned over and asked, "Is it a delivery?"
"I don't know, I haven't bought anything," Lin Xiaolu denied directly.
"Then maybe it's something your dad bought?" Xia Liang suggested another possibility.
"Him? I've never seen him buy anything online."
Still holding a negative attitude towards this, Lin Xiaolu hesitated for a moment before saying, "But I can't rule out that possibility..."
"So should we open it?"
Looking at the front door in the hallway, Xia Liang was eager to try. "It's daytime, so it should be fine, right?"
"Whether it's daytime or not, the security in our neighborhood should be fine," Lin Xiaolu seemed convinced.
Xia Liang waved her hand and purple magic power condensed into a magic wand in her hand. "Then I'll transform into a magical girl and stand by. If it's a bad person, I'll attack."
Lin Xiaolu wanted to ask why Xia Liang didn't go, but she realized that this was her own home and she should take some responsibility. So she suppressed that thought and stood up from the sofa. "Seems like a good idea."
She waved her hand to cancel her transformation as a magical girl, and Lin Xiaolu put on her slippers and walked towards the front door. Xia Liang, on the other hand, knelt on the sofa with the magic wand, only showing her head as she secretly observed the situation.
Lin Xiaolu frowned and walked to the door. Her hand paused on the doorknob for a moment before pressing it down. She carefully opened the door.
- What she saw was a completely unfamiliar woman.
This woman appeared to be in her twenties, relatively tall, with bright features and a simple C-shaped perm. She was wearing a printed white open-front T-shirt on her upper body, and a high-waisted denim skirt on her lower body. She carried a small crossbody bag, giving off the impression of a capable office lady.
"Who are you?" Lin Xiaolu was dumbfounded.
"Ah, this must be... so adorable!" But the woman in front of her seemed to be very familiar with her. Her eyes lit up when she saw Lin Xiaolu. "I've only seen your photos before, but you're even cuter in person!"
Her self-introduction confused Lin Xiaolu even more. "So who are you?"
As for Xia Liang, she would naturally think of the same question as Lin Xiaolu, but the latter half of what Hong Siyu said was obviously more important.
Seeing that her self-introduction successfully attracted the interest of the two girls, Hong Siyu at the door knocked on the door frame and no longer showed excessive enthusiasm. She suggested, "I've said so much, don't you plan to invite me in for a sit?"
The two girls exchanged glances. Xia Liang squinted her eyes, and only then did Lin Xiaolu reluctantly pull out a pair of shoe covers from the shoe cabinet in the entrance hall and handed them to Hong Siyu. "Here."
"Hehe, then I'll just have to obey your wishes, sister."
Taking the shoe covers from Lin Xiaolu's hand, Hong Siyu skillfully put them on her square-toed shoes. With a sense of excitement that others couldn't understand, she stepped into the apartment in front of her.
As she stepped into Lin Xiaolu's home, she subconsciously looked around. Her gaze moved from the dining room to the living room, taking in the dining table, clock, and cabinets... and then to the neatly arranged sofa. A hint of nostalgia flashed across her face.
It's been a long time.
She murmured to herself.
This strange behavior made Lin Xiaolu, who was standing by her side, stare at her in confusion. Xia Liang was also puzzled. However, out of courtesy, they quickly led Hong Siyu to the living room.
Xia Liang turned to make tea in the kitchen, while Lin Xiaolu pointed casually to the sofa, her expression somewhat tense. "Here, please sit."
"Are you feeling shy?" Hong Siyu turned around and asked her.
"Not at all."
Lin Xiaolu replied stiffly, "Please don't treat me like a child."
"Shyness isn't a trait exclusive to children."
Hong Siyu found a vacant spot on the sofa and casually sat down. "We adults can feel this way too, you know? And we even give it a more serious name, social anxiety."
"...I said I'm not."
"Alright, alright, you're not."
Hong Siyu chuckled teasingly, patting the empty spot next to her. "Can you come sit next to me, so I can get a good look at you?"
"Um..." In response to this request, Lin Xiaolu remained frozen in place, not moving an inch.
