Chapter 47 The Scheme of High Society
Chapter 47 The Scheme of High Society
Steven Liu was very efficient, or rather, his "fear" of Wang Minyu turned into an almost fanatical attempt to please him.
On Friday evening, three black Mercedes-Benz vans were parked neatly in front of Renxin Pharmacy, completely blocking the already narrow old street.
This attracted Aunt Wang, who sells stinky tofu next door, to come out with her pot and pan to watch the commotion, thinking that some important person was coming to buy up this run-down street.
"Dr. Wang, you must grace us with your presence at tonight's 'Changxiang Elite Health Salon'." Steven, dressed in a well-tailored bespoke suit, stood at the door and bowed in invitation.
Since being scolded awake by Wang Minyu last time, he threw away his walking stick and stopped mixing English into his speech, making him seem much more pleasing to the eye.
Wang Minyu originally didn't want to go.
These so-called celebrity gatherings are nothing more than a group of people with money to burn, getting together to flatter each other and casually discussing which fortune tellers are accurate and which places have the largest cordyceps.
But Steven's words touched him: "Tonight's buffet is prepared by a Michelin three-star team, and there's plenty of Australian lobster."
Wang Minyu glanced back at Guan Shan, who was munching on a steamed bun, and then at Li Siyuan and Zhao Na, who were staring at the anatomical diagrams and drooling (actually, they were just hungry).
"Go." Wang Minyu put down his teacup. "Close the door, it's team building time."
Su Qing frowned: "I don't like crowded places."
"Then just think of it as going to a forensic examination." Wang Minyu handed her a coat. "Anyway, those people dress up nicely, but they're all the same once they take off their clothes."
Su Qing thought about it and agreed that it made sense, so she silently followed.
The banquet was held on the top floor of the only five-star hotel in Changxiang City.
The crystal chandelier dazzled the eyes, and the air was filled with the scents of expensive perfumes and red wine.
The men talked about the stock market and policies, while the women compared their jewelry and skincare products.
The presence of this group from Renxin Pharmacy seemed out of place.
Wang Minyu was wearing a faded white lab coat (he insisted it was business attire), while Guan Shan was wearing an oversized tracksuit, looking like a wrestler who had wandered onto the wrong set.
Su Qing was dressed entirely in black; strangers should stay away.
Only Li Siyuan and Zhao Na had dressed up a little, but they still exuded a clear "student vibe".
"Oh, Mr. Liu, is this the miracle doctor you were talking about?" A middle-aged man carrying a glass of red wine walked over, looking Wang Minyu up and down with a hint of mockery and disdain in his eyes. "Doesn't look like him. He looks more like... he just escaped from a lab?"
This man is Zhao Dezhu, the president of the largest private hospital in Changxiang City, and a staunch critic of traditional Chinese medicine.
"Dean Zhao, you can't judge a book by its cover," Steven quickly interjected, trying to smooth things over. "My mother has personally experienced Dr. Wang's medical skills."
"Heh, psychological comfort therapy, huh?" Zhao Dezhu swirled his wine glass. "These young people nowadays, they learn a little bit and dare to call themselves miracle doctors. Our hospital just got the Da Vinci surgical robot; that's the future of medicine."
Wang Minyu ignored him and went straight to the buffet area, picking up the largest lobster and handing it to Guan Shan.
"Eat." Wang Minyu said succinctly.
Without saying a word, Guan Shan bit into the shell and meat together, making a sound that startled the surrounding ladies.
Seeing that he was being ignored, Zhao Dezhu looked rather embarrassed.
Coincidentally, on the stage in the center of the hall, an elderly man dressed in a Tang suit and sporting a goatee was giving a lecture.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the human body is a microcosm." The old man's voice was loud and clear. "The 'Quantum Life Detector' that I developed only requires a drop of blood to detect your health status for the next ten years and can remotely repair it through quantum entanglement."
The wealthy people in the audience listened with rapt attention, and many took out their phones to place orders.
That appliance, which looks like a microwave oven, is priced at 880,000.
"Quantum entanglement?" Li Siyuan almost spat out his tiramisu. "Isn't that a scam from years ago? How can anyone still believe it?"
"Because they're afraid of dying, and they're rich," Wang Minyu said casually, peeling a shrimp.
Zhao Dezhu, however, seemed to have found a point of attack. Pointing at Wang Minyu, he loudly proclaimed, "Since Dr. Wang is a master of traditional Chinese medicine, why don't you go up and have a little exchange with that Master Zhang? Let's see if your diagnostic methods of observation, auscultation, inquiry, and palpation are more accurate, or if his quantum technology is more precise!"
All eyes immediately turned to them.
The "Master Zhang" also looked over, his eyes filled with disdain: "Young man, traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes experience. At your age, you probably can't even accurately feel someone's pulse, can you?"
Wang Minyu wiped his hands and sighed.
"I just wanted to have a quiet meal." He stood up, walked to Master Zhang, and circled the "quantum instrument".
"This casing must be from a wholesale supplier in Yiwu, right?" Wang Minyu tapped the plastic casing. "Does it contain an LED light strip and a random number generator?"
"You...you're talking nonsense!" Master Zhang's expression changed. "This is high technology!"
"High-tech?" Wang Minyu laughed.
He suddenly reached out and grabbed Master Zhang's wrist.
Master Zhang tried to break free, but found that the young man's hands were like iron clamps.
"You have liver fire rising, causing a bitter taste in your mouth and a dry throat," Wang Minyu said rapidly. "Have you been experiencing bloating and pain in your right rib area lately? And, in that area... things aren't going so well, are they?"
The entire audience erupted in uproar.
Master Zhang's face turned a deep shade of liver: "You...you're spouting nonsense!"
"Whether you're swearing or not, you know it yourself." Wang Minyu released his hand and pointed to Zhao Dezhu below the stage. "And that Dean Zhao, stop laughing. Your forehead is dark, your eyes are bloodshot, and your hands tremble involuntarily when you speak. These are early signs of hyperthyroidism. I suggest you go to your own hospital to check your thyroid function. Don't just trust the da Vinci robot; sometimes a color Doppler ultrasound that costs a few dozen yuan is more effective."
Zhao Dezhu's smile froze on his face.
His hands have been shaking lately, but he always thought it was because he was tired.
"As for this machine," Wang Minyu said, taking a coin out of his pocket and dropping it into the instrument's inlet.
The screen immediately displayed: [Test subject: Male, 45 years old, kidney deficiency, recommended to purchase a kidney-tonifying package.]
"Even a single coin can cause kidney deficiency?" Wang Minyu shrugged. "It seems this quantum technology is indeed advanced; it can even measure the physiological needs of metals."
The hall was deathly silent, then erupted in a burst of laughter.
Master Zhang tried to slip away in the chaos, but Guan Shan grabbed him back like a chick: "The boss didn't let you leave, so you have to stay."
Seeing this, Steven's admiration for Wang Minyu reached a new level.
This isn't a doctor, it's a mirror that reveals true nature!
