Chapter 323: Divine Son
Chapter 323: Divine Son
Luo Cheng stood up and walked toward a door on the other side of the reception room. "Follow me."
Xu Wuyi followed.
Behind the door was a spacious testing hall with several advanced Virtual Cabins in the center.
On one side of the hall was a monitoring station where a few technicians were calibrating the equipment.
"You’re not the only one invited to this test," Luo Cheng said as they walked. "Young Martial Artists from the Federation’s top universities and Martial Arts Families are all on the invitation list, so long as they meet the requirements."
"They’re being tested at other bases, but the results haven’t been great. You’re one of the few we have high hopes for. We hope you can pass the test."
Xu Wuyi didn’t say much, just nodded. "I’ll do my best."
Luo Cheng pointed to one of the Virtual Cabins. "Get in. The test is simple—defeat Milo’s Illusion. We’ll record your combat data as a reference for the subsequent selection process."
Xu Wuyi nodded and walked to the Virtual Cabin.
Before the cabin door closed, Luo Cheng added one last thing: "Remember, even though it’s an Illusion, don’t let your guard down. The Divine Son of the Werewolf Race is no simple matter."
The Werewolf Race has a unique inheritance model. After an ordinary Werewolf Warrior is chosen as a Divine Son, they not only inherit the skills of Divine Beings but also their bloodline, making them a "Divine Son" in the truest sense of the word.
Although there is more than one of these "Divine Sons," their numbers are extremely limited, and they hold exceptionally high status within the Werewolf Race.
However, Luo Cheng didn’t explain much more. The abilities of a Divine Son were quite complex and couldn’t be clarified in just a few words. It was better to let Xu Wuyi experience it for himself.
"Understood."
The lights in the cabin dimmed, and the consciousness link activated.
After the familiar sensation of teleportation, Xu Wuyi appeared on a standard circular arena.
The arena was about fifty meters in diameter, with a dark gray alloy floor and a translucent Energy Shield surrounding it.
Above him was a simulated blue sky with white clouds, but the light seemed somewhat cold and harsh—clearly the unique color palette of the Battle Network.
Ten meters away, a figure slowly coalesced.
He was a Werewolf nearly 2.3 meters tall. His fur was dark gold, and his bulging muscles didn’t look bloated, but rather flowed with sleek lines full of explosive power.
He wore a set of Bone Armor covering his vitals. The exposed muscles of his arms and calves looked as if they were forged from steel.
The most striking feature was his eyes.
Within his crimson pupils, faint dark-gold patterns swirled, exuding a majesty and intelligence completely different from that of an ordinary Werewolf.
This was Milo.
The Divine Son of the Werewolf Race.
Xu Wuyi tightened his grip on the Meteor Iron Long Spear that had materialized in his hand, his gaze heavy.
He could feel that his opponent’s aura was indeed around Level 35, but the faint sense of pressure it gave off far surpassed that of any Wolfman War General he had ever fought before.
Milo’s Illusion wasted no time with words. The moment he fully materialized, he moved.
No pounce, no howl.
Instead, he exploded off his feet, shooting forward like a cannonball and throwing a punch straight at Xu Wuyi’s face!
Simple, direct, violent.
Before the fist arrived, the force of the punch alone was enough to make Xu Wuyi’s cheeks sting.
Xu Wuyi’s eyes sharpened. He executed the Instant Shadow Step, sidestepping the attack while simultaneously thrusting his spear toward Milo’s ribs.
Milo neither dodged nor retreated, instead swatting at the spear’s shaft with his left claw.
CLANG!
The explosive sound of metal on metal rang out.
Xu Wuyi felt a tremendous force travel up the spear shaft, making his arm go numb.
’This strength... it’s actually not weaker than mine!’
He was slightly alarmed.
After reaching Minor Achievement in the Hundred Refinements Melting Furnace, his physical attributes were top-tier among those at his level. Even against a Level 35 Wolfman War General, he could hold an absolute advantage in strength.
Yet the strength of Milo’s claw strike was actually on par with his own.
’The Divine Son of the Werewolf Race truly is something else.’
His first strike having missed, Milo immediately changed his attack.
He retracted his right fist, and his left claw swept down, grabbing for the wrist of Xu Wuyi’s spear-wielding hand. The movement was as fluid as if it had been practiced a thousand times.
With a flick of his wrist, Xu Wuyi spun the spear, striking at Milo’s claw with the butt of the weapon. At the same time, his footwork shifted continuously as he created distance.
The two exchanged several blows in an instant. The shadows of spear and claw intertwined as a ceaseless series of explosive sounds echoed through the arena.
In the monitoring hall, Luo Cheng and several technicians stared at the data stream on the screen, their expressions grave.
"Strength comparison... evenly matched?" a young technician said in surprise. "This Xu Wuyi can actually go head-to-head with Milo?"
The technician’s surprise wasn’t directed at Milo, but at Xu Wuyi.
After all, they had personally calibrated Milo’s data and knew its strength. None of the previous test participants had been able to confront Milo head-on.
Luo Cheng stared at the screen and said slowly, "Xu Wuyi is one of the strongest in the Federation at Level 35. He has a chance to win."
He paused before adding, "Especially in terms of Martial Arts."
Back on the arena, the battle continued.
Xu Wuyi soon discovered that while Milo’s strength and speed were formidable, he was an Alien Race, after all. His Martial Arts lacked the refinement of the Human Race’s.
The Werewolf Race’s fighting style was more instinctual—clawing, pouncing, and charging. Though immensely powerful, their attacks lacked variety and followed relatively fixed patterns.
The Martial Arts of the Human Race, on the other hand, had developed over thousands of years into a complete system with endless variations in techniques, placing a greater emphasis on skill and coordination.
After ten moves, Xu Wuyi gradually figured out Milo’s attack rhythm.
On the twenty-first move, Milo’s claw swiped at empty air, briefly exposing an opening on his chest.
Xu Wuyi seized the opportunity and thrust his long spear forward. A dark-gold Undying Flame quietly rose from the spear’s tip.
Milo reacted extremely quickly, twisting his body to evade, but the spear tip still grazed his left rib, drawing a spray of blood.
The dark-gold flame immediately spread, beginning to corrode the wound.
Milo glanced down at the wound on his left side, a flicker of rage flashing in his crimson pupils.
He let out a low roar as the Qi and Blood in his body erupted, trying to shake off the flames.
But one of the characteristics of the Undying Flame was its extreme adhesion. Once it took hold, it clung like a maggot to bone.
Although the surge of Milo’s Qi and Blood caused the flames to waver slightly, it couldn’t completely dispel them.
’It’s working.’ Xu Wuyi’s resolve hardened, and his attacks grew even fiercer.
The shadows of his spear surged toward Milo like a tide, wave after wave.
Although Milo was not lacking in strength or speed, he was ultimately at a disadvantage in terms of technique variation and was gradually being suppressed.
More and more wounds appeared on his body. Although none were deep, the corrosion from the Undying Flame continuously drained his Qi and Blood.
In the monitoring hall, the technicians watched as the health value for Milo’s Illusion on the screen began to slowly decrease, and they all breathed a sigh of relief.
"As expected, we still have the advantage in technique."
"Xu Wuyi’s Spear Technique is very steady. He’s making almost no mistakes."
"That flame Martial Technique is also very special. It seems to have a damage-over-time effect..."
Luo Cheng remained silent, just staring at the screen with a slight frown.
He knew things wouldn’t be that simple.
To be called a Divine Son by the Werewolf Race, Milo certainly had more up his sleeve than this.
Sure enough, just as Xu Wuyi was starting to gain the upper hand, something unexpected happened.
