God Emperor's Angel of Death

Chapter 398

Chapter 398

As the highest priority target, dieterian's shuttle was the first escape device to leave the doomed curse echo.

Slaves and bishops, as well as 24 servants and crew in robes, were watching holographic projections that served as tactical maps and eye screens.

Unlike the echo hologram, dieterian's image flickered from time to time, causing pain to Septimus's naked eyes.

Fortunately, after his bionic device started running, the pain disappeared and helped solve some flickering interference.

Only then did Septimus realize that it was a designed projection that could be seen by the artificial eye.

The ship is round and rolling like a puffy beetle, but it is covered with defensive turrets, and almost three-quarters of its length is given to drive engines and sub space engines.

Bulkheads separated these areas of the ship from habitable areas, and Septimus saw several mechanical priests wearing ventilation masks entering and leaving the engine deck.

The whole boat was packed to madness.

In order to make room for the ship's armor, weapon system and propulsion system, each tunnel is a narrow walkway, and each cabin is a short box containing basic systems and enough space for an operator.

The command deck is the most spacious place in the whole ship. Even so, if eight people are present at the same time, there is no more place to move.

Septimus watched the ship's logo jump on an asteroid, hidden here to avoid alien scanning.

On the flashing water screen, the rune for echo is just a small dot in a pile of anger signals.

"The echo is coming. They will succeed."

Septimus had just finished speaking when he heard footsteps behind him and turned his head.

Pharmacist Valere came in, his armor joints making noise with every movement.

"Tell me what happened."

The pharmacist asked, as if he had been calm.

"The spirit family doesn't seem to know we're here."

Septimus's eyes returned to the holographic screen.

"I'm not asking the spirit family. Tell me about the curse echo, fool mortal."

Septimus smiled gracefully to hide his embarrassment. After all, his mistake was too obvious.

"They will succeed, Lord Valle."

The pharmacist had no feeling for the use of honorific words, just as Septimus had used honorific words many times or never used them, such things meant nothing to him.

Valle knows what Septimus says about success.

Curse echo's inevitable death.

"Shall I assume that we will leave soon?"

The pharmacist turned to the mechanical bishop and asked softly.

Dieterian nodded, trying to imitate the human movement around his neck.

But the neck is not designed to bend in this subtle way. Something is locked at the top of his spine. He must take some time to relax the spine connection.

"Yes."

Valere went to where Septimus was standing and observed the hologram for himself.

"What's that?"

He pointed to another Rune symbol.

"That..."

Septimus went to the helmsman's console and tapped a few buttons to adjust the holographic display.

"... is the Orbital Defense station of the Empire."

Valle did not speak, which was not surprising to Septimus.

The pharmacist's pale blue eyes blinked. When he looked at the holographic image of the broken orbital station, the curse echo was close to it.

He bent down to enlarge the picture.

"It was a particularly satisfactory killing."

"Yes, my Lord."

Valle glanced at Septimus with his uneasy eyes.

After nearly ten years of service in the eighth legion, Septimus often thought that nothing could shake his courage anymore, but it seemed that Valle's eyes seemed to be a rare exception.

"What's the matter with you?"

Asked the pharmacist.

"Your heart rate is speeding up and your body exudes a low-energy excitement."

Septimus tilted his head towards the screen.

"I spent most of my adult life playing for the Legion. Without that, I don't even know who I am."

"Yes, yes, it's fascinating."

The pharmacist turned to dieterian again.

"Mechanical bishop, one thing can alleviate my boredom. I want to listen to the communication of the spirit family. Can you invade their signal?"

"Of course."

Dieterian spread out his two auxiliary legs and let them arch over his shoulders to work on a separate console.

"But I don't have the ability to translate the pronunciation of the spirit language."

This caused Valle's laughter.

"Really? I thought you'd be smarter."

"A mechanical bishop has more urgent things to deal with than funny tricks such as the mumbling of unlucky aliens."

"There's no need to be angry."

Valle gave a brief smile, although it was fake.

"I can speak several lingzu dialects. If I can, just listen to the signal."

Dieterian paused before pulling the last lever.

"Can you explain your mastery of foreign languages?"

"There's nothing to explain, noble bishop. I don't like ignorance. When the opportunity to learn appears, I will seize it."

He looked at the mechanist in the robe.

"Do you think the red pirates only fight against the corrupt Empire? No, we have fought with the spirit clan countless times, and there are not no prisoners in the middle. Guess who got information from them through torture."

"I see."

Dieterian accepted the answer and tried again to pretend to nod.

His spine is made of various precious metals, plus pieces of ceramics, making a clicking sound with the movement.

When dieterian held the joystick, the bridge was immediately filled with alien whispers and distorted by the distorted crackle.

Valle said a word of thanks and turned his attention back to the holographic screen.

Septimus stood with him, his attention alternating between the unfolding battle and Valle's pale face.

"Stop looking at me."

Valle said after a minute.

"You're getting more and more annoying."

"I'm sorry, sir, but what is the spirit family talking about?"

Valle listened for another half a minute and didn't seem to care much.

"They talk in three-dimensional space and compare the actions of warships to ghosts and beasts in the sea. All these are very poetic, but they are plain and worthless. At present, there are no casualties reported, and there is no scream generated by the captain of the spirit family when their souls are lost."

Septimus suddenly understood what Valle was really listening to.

The first fierce claw is right. Valle is indeed a member of the eighth legion, no matter where his genetic seeds come from.

"Wait a minute."

The pharmacist suddenly gave a low surprise, and then fell into silence again.

The background was still full of whispers of the spirit family. Septimus took a breath and asked:

"They're --"

Valere stared at him to calm him down, and the pharmacist's pale eyes narrowed into a slit and looked attentively.

The mechanical bishop waited with his arms crossed in front of his chest, hoping for an explanation, but hardly expecting it.

"Wait."

Valle finally opened his mouth. He closed his eyes to better focus on the alien words.

"Something's wrong."
