Chapter 1994 1995: Restraining Northern Spiritual Energy
Chapter 1994 1995: Restraining Northern Spiritual Energy
At this moment Ling Zhenfei suddenly sensed something, and said to the others, "Everyone, rein in your Northern Spiritual Energy. I'm going to rein in my Northern Spiritual Energy too."
Ling Zhenfei had them draw back the Northern Spiritual Energy on their bodies, leaving only a thin layer of it shrouding them.
Northern Spiritual Energy in Xianling Mountain was abundant to begin with; this thin layer of Northern Spiritual Energy shouldn't attract the attention of anything in particular.
Just then they suddenly heard a shrill screech; Ling Zhenfei knew something had appeared in the sky.
Those Giant Eagles from the cliffs often came here at night to hunt; he figured they'd come again.
At this time Sun Wei pointed toward the foot of the tree, and the group looked down, only to see a few pairs of eerie blue eyes appear beneath the tree, which gave them quite a shock.
The sounds from above came from those Giant Eagles—they were here to hunt—and the eyes below belonged to a few Chi Tigers, which, needless to say, were here to hunt as well.
Sure enough, the Chi Tigers charged straight toward that cluster of small animals.
The Chi Tigers were huge, and their movements extremely swift; they rushed in and started biting wildly at the little animals, and quite a few of them died in the tigers' mouths and claws in an instant.
Murong Liuqing couldn't stand watching anymore and said, "These big Lao Hu are really bullying the weak, this is just unbearable. Don't you guys feel like pigs not helping them out?"
Sun Wei said, "Things like this happen in the forest every single day. Are we supposed to drop everything and go look after the little animals?"
Murong Liuqing said, "If we don't see it, fine, we don't intervene. But since we've seen it, I have to step in."
Sun Wei said, "The weak are prey to the strong—this is how nature works. You can't go against natural law. If you keep helping those small animals, those tigers will end up starving to death. Is that what you want to see?"
Murong Liuqing said, "They're such cute little animals, how can they just die like this?"
Sun Wei said, "So because they're cute they shouldn't die, and the Chi Tigers are ugly so they deserve to die, is that it?"
Ling Zhenfei said, "Alright, stop arguing. There are only a few Chi Tigers; even if they eat a few of the small animals, it's no big deal."
Ling Zhenfei had just finished speaking when a very loud screech rang out from above, and several black shadows dropped from the sky, diving straight at the Chi Tigers.
Their speed was incredibly fast, like arrows loosed from the string, shooting down toward the Chi Tigers.
Turned out the eagles in the sky were launching an attack on the Chi Tigers.
This area had originally been the eagles' territory, part of their hunting grounds. Now that Chi Tigers had appeared on their turf to hunt, of course the eagles weren't going to just swallow it.
Four eagles in the sky swooped down to attack the Chi Tigers on the ground.
The Chi Tigers naturally refused to show weakness; they twisted around and launched a counterattack at the eagles.
These four eagles should be the offspring of the Giant Eagle that had once fought Ling Zhenfei; last time Ling Zhenfei had also traded blows with them.
The Chi Tigers and these eagles were probably old rivals; last time they'd also had a major battle here in this Pile of Rocks.
Now the four eagles and the Chi Tigers tangled together again. The eagles descended from the sky with inherent advantages, but the Chi Tigers were massive yet agile, and weren't at a disadvantage at all.
After several swooping attacks, the eagles in the sky actually hadn't gained the upper hand; the two sides traded blows back and forth, fighting to an even standstill.
Sun Wei and the others were enthralled by the spectacle, just short of standing up and cheering.
Sun Wei said, "These Chi Tigers and eagles know each other very well; it's not going to be easy for either side to win."
Ling Zhenfei said, "There might be some kind of twist."
Ling Zhenfei had just said that when an eagle's cry suddenly rang out from the sky, the sound filled with raging Northern Spiritual Energy that poured into their ears like a muffled thunderclap.
Everyone was stunned; before they could react, they suddenly felt a gale sweep over them, making the big tree they were hiding in shake a few times.
The group was shocked, and then a black shadow dropped from the sky.
This responding eagle blotted out the Zhao Tianbi Ri, its wingspread as large as a small airplane, and it dove straight down from the sky. With one grab it seized a Chi Tiger; the Chi Tiger let out a miserable scream but was helpless, and was directly carried up into the sky by the Giant Eagle.
Then the Giant Eagle loosened its claws, and the Chi Tiger fell from the sky.
The Chi Tiger struggled as it dropped, and while it was still in the air it suffered attacks from the other eagles.
The Chi Tigers on the ground lined up in a row waiting below; the falling Chi Tiger came down and smashed right into them.
One Chi Tiger roared, and the Chi Tigers all bolted toward the forest together.
The appearance of that Giant Eagle scared off all the Chi Tigers; only the few eagles remained circling in the air.
Sun Wei and the others were dumbfounded, and whispered, "What a huge eagle, so incredibly fierce."
Ling Zhenfei said, "I've fought this eagle before, more than once. Its strength really is terrifying."
After circling in the air a few times, the eagles each grabbed a piece of prey and flew off into the distance, heading toward that cliff.
Once the eagles had flown off, the expressions on everyone's faces gradually returned to normal.
Zhang Zhenlin said, "Brother Ling, since you've fought that eagle, tell us about it."
Ling Zhenfei said, "There's actually not much to tell. The first time I encountered it, my strength was only at the Zhiyi realm peak; you couldn't really call it a fight, it was more like running for my life.
The second time counted as a real fight, but the situation was complicated and hard to explain."
It seemed Sun Wei was very curious about the Giant Eagle, and he pressed on, "So what exactly happened that second time? Why did you fight the Giant Eagle? Do you have some sort of grudge with it?"
Ling Zhenfei said, "Don't worry about it so much. In any case, it's best not to provoke that Giant Eagle."
Sun Wei asked, "What level of strength is that Giant Eagle at now?"
Ling Zhenfei said, "That Giant Eagle's strength is roughly at the Dawen Realm, but because of its steel-hard bones and muscles, its actual combat power is far above that of a human at the Dawen Realm."
The group kept chatting, and the Pile of Rocks returned to its former calm; only a bunch of small animals were spitting pearls at the moon, making for a very bizarre scene.
Just then they suddenly heard an eagle's cry from far away; it came from the distance, and they had no idea what was happening over there.
But by now it was no longer something Ling Zhenfei could meddle in; as long as the Giant Eagle didn't come looking for trouble with him, that was enough.
Early the next morning, at first light, Ling Zhenfei set out with Sun Wei and the others.
Ling Zhenfei, still familiar with the route, headed toward the depths of Xianling Mountain.
He followed the same route as last time, and along the way they saw quite a few animal corpses.
Some of these animals were large carnivores, but now they lay dead, killed by someone else—no one knew exactly what had happened.
Ling Zhenfei and the others guessed it was very likely that some cultivators had entered the mountain, been attacked by these animals, and then killed them in return.
But this was all just Ling Zhenfei's speculation; they hadn't actually witnessed anything, so it was hard to say.
Just then they saw yet another Chi Tiger lying dead by the side of the path.
