Chapter 158: To Panama!
Chapter 158: To Panama!
Matthew Hesh sat in his office, surrounded by piles of papers, maps, and reports. The past few days had been non-stop planning and coordination, with the departure date for Panama quickly approaching. The Panama Canal project was officially underway, and while everything seemed to be moving in the right direction, Matthew felt the weight of the task ahead.
Amber walked into the office holding a clipboard. "Matthew, I’ve finalized the checklist for the trip. I thought you’d want to review it before we leave."
Matthew looked up, exhaustion evident on his face. "Thank you, Amber. What’s on the list?"
Amber handed it to him, sitting down across the desk. "Clothing for the heat, medical supplies, documents, and some essentials to make the transition easier. I’ve also added items for the team, just in case they forget anything."
Matthew skimmed through the list and nodded. "Looks good. Have you checked in with Charles? Is everything set for the equipment and supplies shipment?"
"Charles confirmed everything this morning," Amber replied. "The cargo ship is scheduled to leave a day before us, so everything should arrive in Panama by the time we get there."
"And the travel arrangements?" Matthew asked.@@@@
Amber smiled. "We’ll be taking a cruise ship. It’s practical and gives us a few days to organize our plans before we arrive. Victor and Jacques will be traveling with us, along with a few advisors and staff."
"A cruise ship," Matthew repeated, raising an eyebrow. "That feels a bit... extravagant, don’t you think?"
Amber shook her head. "It’s not about luxury, Matthew. You’ve been running yourself into the ground. A few days of calm will help you recharge. Besides, we’ll be using the time to prepare, not lounge around."
Matthew sighed and leaned back in his chair. "You’re right. It’s been nonstop these past few weeks. I guess a quiet trip wouldn’t hurt."
Amber stood up, giving him a reassuring smile. "I’ll handle the final preparations. You focus on tying up any loose ends here."
The days leading up to their departure were chaotic. Crates of supplies and equipment were loaded onto trucks and sent to the docks, where they would be transferred to the cargo ship. Engineers and advisors held last-minute meetings to finalize plans, and teams at Hesh Industries worked tirelessly to ensure everything was ready.
Matthew looked up, his expression softening. "We have. But there’s still a lot to do. I’m just glad you’ll be there with me."
Amber walked over and placed a hand on his shoulder. "We’ve faced big challenges before, Matthew. This will be no different. We’ll get through it together."
Once the ship set sail, the mood shifted to one of quiet focus. Matthew and his team used the time to prepare for the work ahead. Victor Lachance and Jacques Bellamont joined Matthew and Amber for regular strategy sessions in one of the ship’s lounges, where they reviewed construction plans, discussed potential obstacles, and refined their approach.
"This is going to be the biggest engineering project of our time," Bellamont said during one meeting, his excitement barely contained. "The locks alone will require unprecedented precision and coordination."
"And the political side of things will require just as much care," Lachance added. "Winning the trust of the Panamanian people is critical. If we lose their support, the entire project could collapse."
Matthew listened carefully, nodding as they spoke. "That’s why we’re investing in local infrastructure and education. We need to show them that this isn’t just a canal—it’s an opportunity for a better future."
Amber chimed in, her tone confident. "And with Amerathian support, we’ll have the resources to make that vision a reality. This isn’t just about what we’re building; it’s about how we build it."
The team continued their discussions late into the evenings, the hum of the ship’s engines providing a steady background.
By the time the cruise ship reached its destination, the team was as prepared as they could be. As the ship approached the port, Matthew stood on the deck, looking out at the coastline.
Amber joined him, slipping her hand into his. "How are you feeling?"
"Ready," Matthew said simply. "This is going to be tough, but I believe in what we’re doing."
Amber squeezed his hand. "And I believe in you. Let’s get to work."
As the ship docked and the passengers began disembarking, Matthew and his team prepared to take the next step in their journey. The Panama Canal project was no longer just an idea—it was becoming a reality.
